    • Titus Livius, Ab Urbe Condita, 36.23:
      fornices quoque in muro erant apti ad excurrendum, et ipsi, cum pro dirutis reficerent muros, crebriores eos, ut pluribus erumperetur in hostem locis, faciebant.
      There were also arches in the wall apt for rushing forth, and these, when they rebuilt the collapsed walls, were made more frequent, to create more places for rushing forth upon the enemy.
