Etymology

Western dialectal; from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French garochier ‘to fire a projectile, strike with a projectile’,[1] from garroc, guaroc ‘crossbow bolt’, variant of garrot, garot ‘large wooden projectile, stick for twisting rope’.[2] More at garrot.
