Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic гиздавъ (gizdavŭ), from Proto-Slavic *gyzdavъ, from *gyzdъ +‎ *-avъ. Compare Bulgarian гиздав (gizdav), Serbo-Croatian gizdav, Polish gizdawy.
