From *gjegjë, from Proto-Albanian *glaglā, root doubling of Proto-Indo-European *gʰel- (to call, cry). Compare Old Church Slavonic глаголъ (glagolŭ, word), глаголати (glagolati, speak), Ancient Greek γλάζω (glázō, lets a song resound), Welsh galw (call).
