From Old Irish glún, dissimilated from earlier Proto-Celtic *gnūnos, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵónu. Cognate with Breton glin (“knee”), Scottish Gaelic glùin and Welsh glin (“knee”), and further English knee, Latin genū (“knee”).
