From Old Irish glún, dissimilated from earlier Proto-Celtic *gnūnos, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵónu. Cognate with Breton glin (knee), Scottish Gaelic glùin and Welsh glin (knee), and further English knee, Latin genū (knee).
