From earlier doglus, possibly from drocsoillsí, drochsoillsí, from droch (low) + soillse (brightness, light)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Celtic *glustus, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰlustus, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰelh₂- (to shine).[2]
