Irish
[edit]Phrase
[edit]- bon voyage (addressed to one person)
Usage notes
[edit]- Literally “May the road [i.e. the journey] be successful for you”. Popularly mistranslated as "May the road rise to meet you" due to a confusion of the idiom éirigh le (“be successful for”) with éirigh (“rise”). Used to wish good luck to someone.
Synonyms
