Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *gur-gur, root-doubling of Proto-Indo-European *h₂ger- (to put together). Identical with Lithuanian gurgulỹs (coagulation, thickening), gùrguolė (bulk, mass, lump), and cognate to Ancient Greek ἀγείρω (ageírō, gather; assemble), Latvian gùrste (bundle of flax).
