Etymology[edit]

From Middle High German hǖdech, from Old High German *hiudīg, northern variant of hiutīg; equivalent to haut (today) +‎ -eg. The Luxembourgish -t- from the underlying adverb (pronounced [hɑʊ̯t]) and/or under influence of cognate German heutig.
