Originally a mutated form of oll, from Proto-Celtic *olyos (compare Old Irish uile, Gaulish ollon), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃olyos (all) (compare Gothic 𐌰𐌻𐌻𐍃 (alls), Old Armenian ողջ (ołǰ)).
