Etymology[edit]

Proposed to be derived from Proto-Yoruba *i-ɣè. Compare with Ekiti Yoruba , uyè, iyè. This usually serves as a root that is compounded with other words to form the meaning "rib" in Yoruboid languages (excluding Igala), see Ondo Yoruba ìghághè, Akure Yoruba ụgbáè, Yoruba ịgbáyè
