Muong[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Vietic, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kʔik ~ *kʔiək ~ *kʔaik (armpit). Cognate with Tho [Cuối Chăm] kɛːk⁷ (uninfixed), Vietnamese nách (through a nasal infixed form), Khmer ក្លៀក (kliək) (through a lateral infixed form), Khmu [Cuang] klʔɛk (through a lateral infixed form), Mal kɛʔ (uninfixed).

Unlike Vietnamsee, which only maintains the infixed form nách, Mường Bi seems to keep both the uninfixed kéch and the infixed néch as synonyms.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /kɛk⁶/, [kɛc⁶]

Noun[edit]

kéch

  1. (Mường Bi, anatomy) armpit
    Synonym: néch
