Derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kjáudas, from Proto-Indo-European *kéwdos. Cognate with Old East Slavic кудесникъ (kudesnikŭ) and Russian куде́сник (kudésnik). By surface analysis, kúzdlo +‎ -ník.
