[edit]From Ottoman Turkish قرلانغیج (kırlangıc), from Common Turkic *karlïgač (“swallow”), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *k(i)ar- (“swallow”).
Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (qarlïğač, “swallow”); Kazakh қарлығаш (qarlyğaş, “swallow”), Kyrgyz кардыгач (kardıgac, “swift (bird)”), Shor қарлығаш (“swallow”), Crimean Tatar qarılğaç, Uzbek qaldirg'och, Uyghur قالغاچ (qalghach).
