Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unclear. It has its origins in the Catalan Company's brutality in the Catalan Campaign in Asia Minor. [1][2] Another theory suggests it comes from the derivation of kall (to thrust or pierce), influenced by a story by Polyphemus.
