Etymology[edit]

Probably from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *d-k(y)aːy (crab), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *d-k(j)aːj (crab). Cognate with Western Kayah ꤏꤝꤥ꤬ (hswò), Western Pwo ဆွ့ၪ, S'gaw Karen ဆွဲၣ် (hsweh̀).
