[edit]According to J. and W. Grimm, related to Tyrolean kill (“intimate”), Swedish kela, Danish kjäle (“to cuddle”); Danish kelen, kälen, kjälen (“tender, soft; spoiled, pampered”); compare also Swabian käl (“tasteless, crass”), Augsburg dialect kalläß (“picky (regarding food)”).[1] Hellquist gives further possible cognates to Swedish kela: Scanian kelen, Norwegian kjœla (“softness”)[2] (This etymology is missing or incomplete.
