[edit]Inherited from Old Swedish klokstapul. By surface analysis, klocka (“bell”) + stapel (“stack; stocks”). First attested in 1507[1]
Cognate with Danish klokkestabel, Norwegian Nynorsk klokkestopul and German Glockenstapel.
