Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Onomatopoeic

Verb[edit]

knattra (present knattrar, preterite knattrade, supine knattrat, imperative knattra)

  1. to (cause to) make short, sharp, repeated sounds (that are not too loud)
    knattra på en skrivmaskin
    tap/clack away at a typewriter
    Mopeden knattrade iväg
    The moped puttered off

Usage notes[edit]

"Knatter" might provide decent intuition. Not as soft-sounding as puttra (putter), but still not too loud.
