Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Latin convocatio. First attested in 1632.[1]

Noun[edit]

konvokation c

  1. (obsolete, chiefly foreign) A convocation; an assembly.
    • 1838 November 21, “Götheborg [Gothenburg]”, in Göthen, page 1:
Franska Deputerade kammaren har blifvit sammankallad till d. 17:de i nästa månad. Orsaken till denna ovanligt tidiga konvokation lärer böra sökas i ett löfte, som man för någon tid sedan gaf sjöstädernes depute-rade, neml, att frågan om nedsättningen af tullen för socker skulle afgöras så fort som möjligt.
The French Chamber of Deputies has been convened for the 17th of next month. The reason for this unusually early convocation is to be found in a promise made some time ago to the deputies of the port cities, namely, that the question of reducing sugar tariffs would be decided as soon as possible.
    Synonyms: församling, möte, sammankallande
    1. (obsolete, ecclesiastical) A convocation; an assembly of the clergy.

      • 1894 August 20, “En doktorspromotion i Oxford. [A doctorate promotion in Oxford.]”, in Fyris, page 2:
Först ägde en konvokation af universitetet rum.
First, a convocation of the university took place.
