Etymology

From Greek κορόιδο (koróido, “sucker”), from earlier word Greek κουρόγιδο (kourógido), itself from κουρεύω (kourévo) +‎ γίδι (gídi); probably in reference to Byzantine soldiers who were shaved with a goat's shears.
