From Proto-Albanian *kripa, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱripo- (headhair). Compare Avestan 𐬯𐬭𐬌𐬟𐬁 (srifā, plume), Sanskrit शिप्रा (śíprā, mustache and beard).[1]
