Etymology[edit]

From a substratum word. It is unknown exactly from which source, but it is ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *leuk- (light). Another theory derives it from lucoare through an intermediate *lucuri, or from Vulgar Latin root *liculire, or it may be tied to Latin lucere. A less likely source is Vulgar Latin root *liquorare, from liquere. Cf. Aromanian licuredz (variant licãrescu).

Verb[edit]

a licări (third-person singular present licărește, past participle licărit) 4th conj.

  1. to gleam; to sparkle
