Etymology

Substratum word. Via what source is unknown, but ultimately from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *leuk- (light). Another theory derives it from lucoare trough an intermediate *lucuri, or from a Vulgar Latin root *liculire, or it may be tied to Latin lucere. A less likely source is a Vulgar Latin root *liquorare, from liquere. Cf. Aromanian licuredz (variant licãrescu).

Verb

a licări (third-person singular present licărește, past participle licărit) 4th conj.

  1. to gleam; to sparkle
