From dialecal swedish lubber (fat and sluggish person), from Proto-Germanic *lubbǭ (that which hangs or dangles), from Proto-Indo-European *lewbʰ-, *lep- (to peel, skin). See also English lubber, English lob, Danish lobbes (bumpkin, clown).
