Swedish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From luffare (“tramp, hobo”) + schack (“chess”).
Noun[edit]
luffarschack n
- tic-tac-toe, gomoku, and similar games where the goal is to get a certain number of the same mark in a row (with the marks usually being crosses and circles)
- Synonyms: (tic-tac-toe) tripp trapp trull, (tic-tac-toe, Finland Swedish) bondschack, (tic-tac-toe) tre i rad (“three in a row”), fem i rad (“five in a row, etc.”)

Usage appears to vary. People into more advanced variants on a larger grid (as a hobby) seem to mostly equate luffarschack with those, while others are likely to equate it with tic-tac-toe.
