From Vulgar Latin *mināciāre, present active infinitive of *mināciō (threaten), from minācia (threat), from Latin mināx, mināciae. Compare Italian minacciare, French menacer.

This was conjugated like a regular verb, but with a change from -ç- to -c- before front vowels (i and e).
