Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish موضوعات, plural of موضوع, from Arabic مَوْضُوع (mawḍūʕ, topic, subject). The standard Arabic plural is مَوَاضِيع (mawāḍīʕ) and the sound plural may be a Persian or Ottoman formation.
