Horpa

Etymology

[edit]

Back-formation from ɣnəmkʰo, as the term ɣnə might be a Qiangic root for "sun", cf. Khroskyabs ɣnə⁵⁵ (sun), Muya nə̱²⁴ (sun), and Horpa ɬə ɣnə (moon). Further from Classical Tibetan གནམ་མཁའ (gnam mkha', sky, heaven); or directly from Classical Tibetan མཁའ (mkha', sky, heaven).
