Etymology

From a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia, possibly via a Vulgar Latin *anabionem or, considering its variants, *abanionem.[1] Ultimately related to Basque ahabia (bilberry), Spanish anavia (blueberry), Gascon anajon (blueberry) and Languedocien abajon.
