From Dutch neushoorn, equivalent to neus (“nose”) + horing (“horn”), a calque of Ancient Greek ῥινόκερως (rhinókerōs).

Noun[edit]
neushoring (plural neushorings, diminutive neushorinkie)
- (rare) rhinoceros

- The term is rarely, if ever, applied to rhinoceros themselves, but survives in some compounds as an attribute, such as neushoringvoël (“hornbill”, literally “rhinoceros bird”)
