Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Finnic *nokkë-, probably a derivative of nokka (“beak”), in reference to the prickliness.[1] Compare Estonian nõges and Votic nõkõn, nõkõs (Mati, Kõrvõttula). Morphologically the word may contain the suffix -onen.
