Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *nāgala, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃nogʰ- ‎(nail). Close to Old English næġel ‎(nail), Lithuanian nagas, Russian нога́ ‎(nogá, foot, leg). Alternatively a variant of nyjë, with -el enlargment.
