Etymology[edit]
Proto-Finnic *nüküden. Equivalent to nyky- + -ten. Compare nyt (“now”), nykyisin (“these days”). Cognates include Ludian nügüde, nügüdelin, Veps nügüden, nügüdi and Votic nüttä.
