Etymology

Borrowed from Czech obyvatel.[1][2][3] Displaced Middle Polish obywaciel due to Czech and Ukrainian influence. First attested in 1511–1540.[4] Compare Slovak obyvateľ, Russian обыва́тель (obyvátelʹ).
