Etymology unclear, might be derived from dialectal cásati (jerk) or possibly from česati (comb), or from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Slavic *ot-jasъ, i.e. “something which hangs from the belt”. Possibly influcenced by folk etymology.[1][2]
