Via German olympisch from Ancient Greek Ὀλυμπικός (Olumpikós), Ὀλυμπιακός (Olumpiakós), Ὀλύμπιος (Olúmpios), derived partly from Ὄλυμπος (Ólumpos, “Mount Olympus”), partly from Ὀλυμπος (Olumpos, “Olympia”).
