Inherited from Chagatai ازوق (azuq), from Proto-Common Turkic *āzuk, from Sogdian 𐼰𐼹𐼴𐼸 (ʾδwk /⁠āδūk⁠⁠⁠/, grain, crop). Compare Uyghur ئوزۇق (ozuq), Kazakh азық (azyq), Kyrgyz азык (azık), Tatar азык (azıq), Bashkir аҙыҡ (aźıq), Salar asuq, Turkish azık. Doublet of ozuqa (food).
