Uncertain. Possibly linked to (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek πιττάκιον (pittákion) (cf. Latin pittacium (label; patch)), or from a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "VL." is not valid. See WT:LOL. root *piticus. Compare Romanian petic (patch, rag, shred), Calabrian pettica ("leather band, strip"); cf. also Spanish pedazo (piece).
