From Proto-Mon-Khmer *punʔ ~ *puən() ~ *pan(); cognate with Khmer បួន (buən), Bahnar puăn, Pacoh poan, Mon ပန် (pɔn) and Central Nicobarese [Nancowry] fōan, Vietnamese bốn.
