Maltese

Etymology

From a variant of Sicilian cacocciùla, eventually from Arabic خَرْشُوف (ḵaršūf). Inheritance is phonetically impossible. Compare also kaboċċa (cabbage), which is unrelated, but one of the two words might have influenced the other phonetically.
