From Proto-Celtic *ɸratinākā, a derivative of Proto-Celtic *ɸratis (compare Middle Irish raith, Welsh rhedyn), from Proto-Indo-European *perHt- (compare Greek φτέρη (ftéri), Lithuanian papártis).
