The ancestor of Catalan is Old Catalan (roa-oca)., rozegar, from Vulgar Latin *rosicāre, present active infinitive of *rosicō, from Latin rōsus, from rōdō. Compare Occitan rosegar, Italian rosicare, Friulian roseâ.
