Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *si(l)gʷā, possibly from a Mediterranean substrate source. Compare Ancient Greek σίδη (sídē), σίβδη (sívdi, id), σίλβια (sílvia), σίδια (sídia) (Hes.).[1] According to Witczak, it is related to Doric Greek κυσήγη (kusḗgē) [2]
