From Proto-Cariban *tikô. Compare Kari'na siko, Trió sikë, Wayana sikë, Apalaí siko, Waiwai sïko, Akawaio sikö, Pemon sikö, Macushi sikî, Sranan Tongo sika.[1] Likely English chigoe, chigger, jigger are ultimately from the same source.
