Etymology

From stav (staff, pole, ski pole) +‎ gång (walking), calque of Finnish sauvakävely. This training exercise was developed in the 1980s, but SAOB also mentions this word as used since 1652 as a now obsolete synonym to rågång (borderline between properties and parishes).
