Etymology

Possibly Chinese, possibly Hokkien 山崩地裂 (soaⁿ-pang-tōe-li̍h, “uproarious; riotous; outrageous”, literally “the mountains collapse and the earth splits open”). Compare Tagalog suwapang (“greedy”).
