Borrowing from Middle Low German terlink ‎(die, cube, literally small package), from Middle Low German tēre ‎(package) due to the cubic shape of things packaged for transport. Cognate with Low German terling ‎(die), Danish/Norwegian terning ‎(die), Faroese terningur ‎(die).
