From Latin tangere, present active infinitive of tangō, from Proto-Italic *tangō, nasal infix present from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂g-.

Verb

tangere

  1. (transitive) To touch
  2. (transitive) To elicit an emotional response

Conjugation

  • Most modern sources say that this is a defective verb, and that only the third person singular (tange), and the first, second and third person plural (tangiamo, tangete and tangono) of the present tense are normally used.
