Etymology

From Old Catalan tesores, tosores, from Lua error in Module:etymology at line 156: Old Occitan (pro) is not set as an ancestor of Catalan (ca) in Module:languages/data/2. The ancestor of Catalan is Old Catalan (roa-oca)., from Latin (forfices) tonsōrĭas, from tonsus[1]. Compare Spanish tijera, Portuguese tesoura, Galician tesoiras, Asturian tixeres, tisories. The -i-, also found in Spanish and Asturian, may be explained due to gradual influence from Old French cisoires, ciseaux (cf. Catalan cisalla).
